Akamai, pronounced “ACK-a-my,” is:

A Hawaiian word meaning clever or intelligent, plus some.

However it doesn’t pertain to book smarts – it is more of an understanding of the mind. It means much more to be akamai. In Polynesia, there is a saying, “Many are smart, few are akamai.”

Akamai Principals Kenneth Choate and Don Shepherd share 45+ years of related experience including high-level construction and consumer product management.

Their projects have totaled nearly $1 billion in the last 10 years and they have managed businesses with annual sales over $2 billion.

Choate leads the construction organization and his expertise includes developments in Texas, California, Hawaii, and now, Tennessee. He has served as board member of the National Association of Home Builders. His recent recognitions include: Builder of the Year in Hawaii, President of the Hawaii Building Industry Association and Top Builder in Hawaii’s statewide Parade of Homes four times.

Don Shepherd leads operations and product development for Creekstone. He is a classically trained marketer who has successfully translated his consumer products background into an award-winning real estate development focus. His general management and marketing work include: leading billion dollar plus consumer brands, developing new brands and working with the largest retailers in the country.

Don has managed roughly $50 million in land and development projects over the last three years, including the national 2006 Mini-Storage Messenger’s New Facility of the Year Award-Winning Development.
